2016 Annual fashion showcase for Parliament Week at the Houses of Parliament

Fashion & Politics Day at the Houses of Parliament

25th November 2016

London Organic, under our previous name London Ethnic,  once again was a proud supporter of Parliament Week and organised a Fashion & Politics Day – a fashion event where ‘Best of British’ fashion designers  showcased their collections at the iconic Westminster Palace. Designers, ethical fashion campaigners and Parliamentary members discussed the influence that Parliament plays in the British Fashion Industry.

The event was  held in the Jubilee Room off Westminster Hall, on Friday 25th November 2016 and was divided into 2 time-slots of 2 hours : 11am-1pm & 1pm – 3pm.

Each time slot had:

  • Talks from the panel of speakers
  • Q&A with the audience
  • “Best of British” Fashion Showcase
  • Discussions with the panel of speakers
  • Fashion networking in the adjacent room, including snacks tea and coffee.

Main topics of discussion  were “How will Brexit impact the UK Fashion Industry? Will it encourage more home-grown manufacturing and less production of British labels in Europe? Will that mean more control and greater ethical production of clothes? Over 90% of British labels had said that it would have a negative impact on their business in a recent survey. How else does Parliament continue to have a major influence on the clothes industry?”

Guest panellists John Pearce – CEO at Made in Britain, Kate Hills – Founder of Make it British & trade show Meet the Manufacturer, Adam Mansell – CEO at UK Fashion & Textile Association, Sandi Gollen Balendra – Advisory Committee Member & Lecturer at London College of Fashion -University of the Arts, Saumen Kar – Director at London Organic. The pannellsits took upon themselves to talk about the main topics with attendees joining in the debate.

Designers Barbara Biosah ‘Dumebi’, Rebecca Kellet ‘Rebecca Kellet’, Ruth Woldeselasie ‘Urban Roots Eco’ showcased their designs in a fashion catwalk. Each designer manufacture in the UK and embody same values as London Organic.

This was an exclusive, invite-only event, with spaces filled out weeks before the event. International TV presenter Seema Pathan hosted the event. Sponsors included Propercorn & Simply Argan Oil.
